Cisco acquires Jabber, the company

Cisco has announced it will acquire Jabber Inc, the company, not to be confused with Jabber, the protocol, formalised by the IETF and now known under the name XMPP.

Cisco's application server platform built on linux

Cisco announced at its partner summit that it is opening up its Integrated Services Routers and Wide Area Application Services platforms to third party applications. This platform called Application eXtension Platform is built on Linux. Hardware modules and daughter boards are part of the offering.

Cisco publish SMART security tool

CISCO has released the Safe Mapping and Reporting Tool (SMART) on Sourceforge some time ago now, but it's making the news again. From the project's homepage, SMART "is a completely passive network flow visualization tool for small to medium sized IP networks featuring device and operating system identification and network service enumeration".
